As I sat at the kitchen table thumbing through the pages, I closed the book with my husband standing behind me. He leaned over and read, “The Good Wife’s Guide. Hmmm, I bet that’s a goodie!”
I chuckled and said, “I’m sure it’s a kick in the pants too!” Boy did I not realize how true that statement was!
For those of you that have frequented this area of the blogosphere you might have come to learn that I am a very real and honest, black and white person. Sometimes, I know, that can come off a bit offensive. Like I’ve stated in the past the Lord continually deals with me on this issue. I do believe that there are definitely times where we NEED to be very black and white. I believe Christ was that example many times in scripture.
On to the review!
I must start off by saying thanks to Darlene. She did a fine job of compiling her thoughts into very well executed statements. I love listening (or reading in this case) to like-minded believers that are a good ways ahead of me in this journey of noble womanhood.
I found myself convicted several times throughout the course of reading the book. Here are few of the thought-provoking statements that pricked at my heart…
“Purpose is found in those quiet moments when no one but God sees the work of your hands.”
How true is this statement? I have at times had those thoughts that tell me no one cares what I do. No one appreciates it etc etc. This is NOT the way the Bible says we should be about things. Take into consideration the verse which states, “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men…” Colossians 3:23
When I read her statement all I could think was, “YES! You hit the nail on the head!”.
“My goal is to encourage you to make faith and family your first priorities from a place of sacrificial love.”
I believe this statement summarizes the sole intent of the book and encourage she does!
“If we want to live productive lives then it’s time to take the reins and start leading the way.”
As a mother of 3 little ones under the age of 5 it’s easy to fall into a more “slothful” way of things. When they’re all toddlers, no one is waking up during the night for a feeding or in the early morning hours, it can be easy to not get too many things done.
“Up until now, many of us may have allowed our bodies to lead without question but if we want to be a good wife who manages her house well, then we must start by learning to manage ourselves.”
“What has this world come to when children are discarded like items on a yard sale table? When we say, ‘I don’t want to handle the responsibility that comes with being a parent, so I’ll step away – while someone else carries my load.’”
These are just tiny morsels of the book but hopefully they will be enough to hook you! I hope you at some point add this book to your library of encouraging biblical womanhood reads and come back to it often.
I am grateful to have head the pleasure of getting to review this book and I hope that it pricks at your heart in the many ways it has mine.
